Learn how to create a stylish “Purple Flower” banner or signature.
In this tutorial we will learn to transform this:
into this:
1. Open the image you want to modify. I found mine on sxc.hu.
2. Now desaturate it (go to Image >> Adjustments >> Desaturate or hit Ctrl+Shift+U)
3. Now use the Polygonal Lasso Tool or the Magnetic Lasso Tool (depending on the complexity of your object) and make a selection like this one.
4. Create a new layer and fill the selection with whatever color you wish. I used this nice purple.
5. Change the layer’s blending mode to overlay.
6. And ta-daa. Pretty nice,huh?
7. Add some stylish text and you get a wonderful image to use as a banner or signature.
8. You can use use this method to get some other interesting results.

Couldn’t you also just colourise the selection in the photo layer? That’s the method I use, anyway. Nice and informative tutorial regardless.
